So far at low levels i am getting the hang of New world, sort of Skyrim with a crowd.

Last week or so ive noticed the crowd has gone, at least on the selected Gaiscioch server.

It felt great to run past Fog on a town building mission thinking ok doing my little bit for "our" settlement.

That said there just dont seem to be enough people about for town building , settlement defence or even basic grouping.

Some 60's then a dead middle zone and some new players who i assume are giving up.

I understand that running a town takes time and effort and i know Fog doesnt have enough time spare to cover every project.

With the latest patch notes that seem to be leading towards painful hard time gated grind unless you spend RL cash in the amazon shop to bypass it.

Does the game have a future and more importantly does it have a future as a Gaiscioch chapter?

Greetings,

I'm not seeing anything happen in New World that I did not expect. We've seen this same trend happen in 3 of our past 7 chapters and at this point has become common practice. All MMOs in the past decade experience this boom, then vaccum as players move from racing to the end of one thing to jump to the next. This constant churn tends to lead to between a 30-50% population drop in the first 3 months. Go ahead write it down, check it in your own experiences with all future MMO's you'll see it to be true as I have. The modern way to play MMOs is be first to the finishline then go to the next game. But that doesn't mean the game dies.

Games like ESO and FFXIV both show another possible future. One where time allows them to rebuild parts of the game to be better for everyone. Where they learn how to build a proper MMO and adapt to the market. One where they hit pitfalls and find ways to repair the broken bridges and potholes. Both of those games went from near dead to fully living and there's no reason New World can't do the same. At launch they had 177 servers, before they started merging they had 485. They had explosive growth through the first month which required they open new servers to support the extra load and reduce queue times. Now that the first wave has passed it's time to condense the population into it's natural size. The launching of 308 extra servers was to try to endure the peak of the new game hype train. Now they will settle down into their long term size.

Right now we need to be patient. Things will adapt, they will resize, they will be active once again. Our population is fine where it's currently at and once a game is made a chapter it stays a chapter. I still run my 3 events a week here and there are a lot of other events running too. Be sure to check the calendar. Once we see where we are merging we'll make our next phase plan. But Gaiscioch isn't going anywhere. We will continue to carry on.

Regards,

Foghladha

I, too, would advise patience.

No game is ever perfect this far into its history. Amazon is still working on fixing myriad bugs and gremlins as well as introducing new content and implementing balance mechanics. What the game looks like now is surely not what it's going to look like a year, six or even three months from now. Heck, we might even see this server merge with another one, and what a shake-up that will be.

In the meantime, our Leadership runs some pretty mean Events on a daily basis, no matter what your playstyle preference is. Whether its Faction Events (earn those token for Good Stuff!), general PvE/Questing/Expeditions, Town Reputation Events or PvP, we have bunches of folks who are either willing to lead or at least participate.

Rezzing a zombie thread, because I think it could be important for people to know.

Our original server merged to a new one, called "Scheria." Since then, it's pretty active. Avalon and I don't have trouble filling expedition groups, and there's a well-attended zerg run for elite chests every day. The zerg gets a good turn out even on weekdays. If someone were considering trying the game, don't worry about the playerbase, it's active.

Edit:  Scheria server got merged, so now we're on Oceana.

I think we're seeing the results of a major new game release- Lost Ark competing with New World and, if I recall correctly, some major new content being released for Guild Wars 2, both of which are conspiring to drive NW numbers way down. We'll see if the numbers bounce back once the "new game smell" of Lost Ark wears off. There may well be some additional server merges coming soon, and that might increase the numbers at least a bit.

The issue I'm personally having is the lack of Elite Portal and Chest runs (other than what we run but there's even fewer of those because our numbers have dwindled just like those of the server). All I see now are Mutation Expedition Runs and they want 600+ Gear Score to participate. But I'm nowhere near that and there are next to no opportunities to participate in the content that will increase Expertise. Kind of a vicious circle situation.
